Background and Aim: Occupational burnout is a serious health condition in health care professionals. Dental clinicians can be exposed to numerous stressors which can lead to occupational burnout in them. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of occupational burnout and some related factors in scientific faculty members of School of Dentistry, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in 2017.
Material and Method: In this analytical cross-sectional study, participants were enrolled using census sampling. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. They were analyzed with appropriate statistical tests using SPSS version 25.
Results: The results showed low score of emotional exhaustion (28.12), moderate score of personal competence (36.38) and low score of depersonalization (5.00). No significant difference was noted in prevalence of burnout syndrome with regard to gender, age groups, marital status, weekly working hours, and field of specialty of participants. However, a significant difference was noted in emotional exhaustion with respect to field of specialty of participants (P<0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results, faculty members of School of Dentistry, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences suffer from various degrees of burnout syndrome, depending on their field of specialty.
