Abstract:   (2756 Views)
Background and Aim: Having a disabled child in the family as a source of stress, threatens the physical and mental health of parents, especially the mother. On the other hand, increasing resilience and hopefulness increases the ability to cope with stressors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of training resilience skills on life expectancy and reducing the stress of mothers with mentally retarded children.
Material and Method: This is a quasi-experimental study with pre and post- test and control group which was conducted on 30 mothers with disabled children who referred to Besat Exceptional Children's Center in Kamyaran in 2017 and were randomly selected and divided into two groups of control and intervention. Data were collected by the Connor & Davidson Resistance Scale, the Adult Hope Scale (AHS), and the short form of Parental Stress Scale. The results were analyzed using SPSS20.
Results: The results of covariance analysis showed that after intervention, there was a significant difference between the intervention and control groups in increasing life expectancy and reducing stress in mothers of mentally retarded children.
(p<0.001).
Conclusion: Resiliency training is effective in increasing the life expectancy and reducing the stress of mothers with mentally retarded children in Kamyaran. The techniques of this therapeutic approach can be applied to both the individual and the family, especially the mothers who play the primary role of childcare.
