Background and Aim: Epilepsy is one of the most well-known and common disorders of the nervous system. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment-based therapy on attributional styles in epileptic patients.
Materials & Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental pretest and posttest with a control group. The study population included all patients with epilepsy in Tehran who had a medical record in the Tehran Epilepsy Association. Available sampling was used to select individuals. Finally, 40 people were selected based on entry and exit criteria, which were randomly divided into two groups of intervention (20 people) and control group (20 people). The selection of research samples began in May 2019 and lasted for 10 weeks. Data were collected using a documentary-style questionnaire (DSQ) and analyzed by SPSS software version 22 using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance.
Results: Statistical findings showed that the mean of positive attribution styles in the experimental group before the intervention was 0.4±97.47, and after the intervention was 0.85±5.87, and in the negative attribution styles in the experimental group before The intervention was 1.26±3.57, and after the intervention was 1.08±2.72, which was statistically significant between the documentary styles (p <0.001).
Conclusion: Acceptance and commitment-based therapy in patients with epilepsy reduces the negative internal attribution style and increases the positive positive attribution style.
Keywords: Acceptance and commitment based therapy, Attributional styles, Epilepsy.
