Background and Aim: Nowadays, drug dependence is one of the most important public health problems in society. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of schema therapy on anxiety sensitivity and perceived stress of addicted women with chronic pain.
Materials & Methods: The research method of this study is experimental and pre-test, post-test and with a control group. The statistical population (65 people) included all women addicted to crystal living in the camp facing tomorrow in Azadshahr city in the first six months of 2018, from which 30 people were selected by random sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. The research instruments include; anxiety sensitivity, perceived stress and chronic pain questionnaire. Twelve sessions of schema therapy were performed on the experimental group but the control group did not receive treatment. Univariate analysis of covariance and uniform analysis of variance were used to analyze the data.
Results: Statistical findings showed that the mean anxiety sensitivity in the experimental group was 10.33±32.66 before the intervention and 5.64±24.06 after the intervention; Perceived stress before the intervention was 3.61±10.93 and after the intervention was 1.75±5.26, and the mean of chronic pain before the intervention was 3.41±8.93 and after the intervention was 1.24±5.33. This difference was statistically significant between the research variables (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Schema therapy leads to reduced anxiety sensitivity, perceived stress and chronic pain in addicted women with chronic pain.
