Background and Aims: One of the ways to prevent infections resulting from surgery is to scrub hands with green betadine solution prior to surgery. This study aimed to assess the implementation of hand scrub techniques using Povidone-Iodine solution 10% in hospital operating rooms of Tabriz University of Medical Science in 2015.

Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on all personnel in the operating room. Data collection instruments included demographic questionnaire and check list of hand scrub techniques. Each of the samples was observed 3 times during hand scrubbing with green betadine solution.  Data Analysis was carried out with SPSS software version 19 and descriptive statistics (mean standard deviation, frequency, etc.).

Results: 62% of subjects were women. Men with 52.62% did better than women in implementation of hand scrub techniques. Workers between 20 to 29 years old with 67.66% had the highest frequency in good performance. Between the jobs, operating room technicians with 22.72% and operating room experts with the percent of 60 had the highest frequency in good performance. Also employees with the experience over 20 years with the 60% had the highest frequency in good performance.

Conclusion: The performance of the workers was sufficient but still not enough. It is suggested to hold in-service training courses to create interest in employees and use new antiseptic materials for hand scrubbing before surgery and also install brochures about the way of using scrubs where the scrub is placed.
