Background and Aim: Abilizol is used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar mania disorders. This study aimed to find the effect of abilizol on body weight changes and kidney factors in adult male rats.
Material and Method: In this experimental study, 50 adult male rats from wistar race were divided into five groups of 10. The control group received no drug and the sham group received distilled water as the drug solvent. The experimental groups received 5, 10 and 15 mg/kg of abilizol drug gavage for 28 days. At the end of the experimental period, body weight changes were examined and blood samples were taken from all groups. Creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) were measured.
Results: No significant differences were observed in body weight and serum levels of creatinine between experimental groups which received different amounts of abilizol drug and the control group .The serum level of BUN in experimental groups which received 10,15mg/kg of abilizol drug showed a significant reduction compared to the control group (p≤0.05).
Conclusion: Results showed that abilizol drug decreased blood urea nitrogen.
