According to the requirements of environmental health, the health status of hairdresser shops is examined by three aspects including personal hygiene, occupational health, and construction status. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hygienic status of women’s hairdresser shops in the city of Babol in 2016.
Material and Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, all 311 women's hairdresser shops in Babol were examined which 250 one of them cooperated. Data were collected according to the environmental health requirements of hairdresser shops based on observation and interview. They were analyzed using SPSS15 software.
Results: The results showed that %18 of hairdresser shops had no defects and health problems. 14.4% of them were poorly ventilated. 10.4% were not eligible for standard sanitation. 31.6% did not have first-aid kit. 39.2% had no fire extinguishers. In terms of personal hygiene, 46.4% of barbers did not have health card, %27.2 had no business card and 1.6% had no uniforms.
Conclusion: The overall health status of the buildings seemed favorable but there were imperfections in personal hygiene of the barbers. To prevent the transmission of diseases to customers and barbers, health education programs should be held for the barbers to learn various methods of equipment disinfection, job-related diseases, and methods of controlling them. Continuous monitoring of beauty salons also seemed necessary.
