Background and Aim: According to the relatively high incidence of complications caused by vaccination and conflicts on the reported outcomes, this study was done with aim of determining the adverse events following immunization in Qom city from 2014 to 2016.
Material and Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The statistical population in this study was all infants who were referred to a physician during the period of 2014-2015 because of the incidence of vaccination complications. All subjects (412 people) were enrolled in study by a census sampling method because of their limited number. Eventually, data were analyzed by SPSS 19 software and descriptive indexes.
Results: 53.4% of the infants were boy and 45.6% were girl. Most common complications included skin rashes (43.2%), fever (28.2%), swelling (27.9%), induration (22.8%), and pain (9.2%). 72.3% of the complications were completely recovered, 25% were under treatment, and 0.5% were in the form of permanent complications.
Conclusion: Complications are usually mild and temporary, so that the majority of these adverse effects disappeared without medication. However, rare and dangerous complications may still occur. Therefore, a careful follow-up program and registration is recommended to report vaccination complications.
