Background and Aim: Adopting a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy is very important. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between lifestyle and maternal and infant health indicators in Sanandaj in 2019.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study that was conducted in 2019 on 377 women who referred to Sanandaj comprehensive health centers 3 to 6 months after their delivery. Samples were selected by simple random sampling method. Data were collected using a lifestyle questionnaire and the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Inventory. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 21.
Results: The mean and standard deviation of mothers' lifestyle score was 205.87±27.23 which was considered less than 190 as weak, moderate 191-215, and more than 216 as good. Birth weight had a significant relationship with the dimensions of mental health, weight control and nutrition, disease prevention, and maternal spiritual health (P <0.05). There was a significant relationship between head circumference and maternal disease prevention, environmental health, and spirituality (P <0.05). Postpartum depression in mothers was significantly associated with all aspects of lifestyle (P <0.05).
Conclusion: The health of the infant and mother after delivery was related to different aspects of the mother's lifestyle during pregnancy. Therefore, health care providers should train healthy lifestyles to mothers and their families during pregnancy and non- pregnancy.
