Background and Aim: Chronic kidney disease is one of the health problems in today's world, and spiritual health is one of the important concepts in how the patient copes with the problems and stress caused by the disease. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on spiritual health and blood pressure in hemodialysis patients in Gorgan.
Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest study with a control group. The study population included all hemodialysis patients in Gorgan who had medical records in Panj Azar and Shahid Sayad Shirazi hospitals. Using convenience sampling, 20 people were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly divided into two intervention (10 people) and control (10 people) groups. The selection of research samples began in July 2017 and lasted for 2 months. Data were collected using the Spiritual Health Questionnaire (SWB) and analyzed by SPSS software version 24 using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance.
Results: Statistical findings showed that the mean score of patients' spiritual health was 71.90±6.77 before the mindfulness training and reached 81.60±5.43 after the implementation of the training. Also, the mean blood pressure of patients was 15.33±2.72 before mindfulness training and reached 13.05±1.24 in the post-test. This difference was statistically significant (P-value=0.000).
Discussion and Conclusion: The results showed that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy was effective in both improving spiritual health and reducing blood pressure, leading to increased spiritual health and modulated blood pressure in hemodialysis patients.
