Background and Aim: Pain is a common problem in patients with multiple sclerosis, as these they experience a variety of acute and chronic pain. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the mindfulness and acceptance of pain in patients with multiple sclerosis.
Material and Method: This is a case-control study that was conducted on 40 women with multiple sclerosis that were selected by convenience sampling method through all of the patients with multiple sclerosis in Isfahan in 1397. Also, 40 students were selected as a control group after being matched with the group of patients in demographic variables (age, gender, marital status and educational level). Data were collected by Freiburg Mindfulness Questionnaire and Chronic Acceptance Scale and analyzed by SPSS20 software using ANOVA.
Results: The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups of patients with multiple sclerosis and the control group in mind-consciousness (P <0.001). Comparison of pain tolerance showed that there was a significant difference between the case and control group regarding the acceptance of pain (P <0.001).
Conclusion: Paying attention to psychological factors such as pain acceptance and related approaches can be an effective step in reducing pain in patients with multiple sclerosis by educating mind-consciousness.
