Background and Aim: Faculty members, as the main pillars of the university, have an important role in determining the quality of the higher education system. Recognizing their eligible features, can hep in improving the quality of education and the effectiveness of the educational system. The aim of current study was to determine and evaluate the features of an eligible proffesor, according to faculties’ comments, working in Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, Sanandaj, Iran.
Material and Method: The present study was a cross-sectional (descriptive-analytic) study. The study population consisted of all professors at Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, of whom, 120 professors were randomly selected for the study. The data collection tool was a questionnaire, consisted of two sections: demographic questions and questions about the characteristics of eligible professor. Questionnaires were completed by the professors. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 22.
Results: 77 participants were men and 43 were women. The mean and standard deviation of the proffesors’ age and years of service were 42.2±5.14 and 2.20±0.65, respectively. The participants introduced teaching method, the personality, the interpersonal relation, Educational appraisal, research knowledge, and compliance with the rules as an eligible proffesor’s most important features. The most important priority of faculties was the field of teaching method and the least important priority was research knowledge.
Conclusion: Proficiency in teaching lessons is an eligible proffesor’s most important feature according to the participants’ comments, which should be given special attention. Therefore, the universities should select professors, based on exellence in teaching skills and their specialized knowledge, the teachers use with high academic ability.
