Background and Aims: Depending on the development of neighborhoods and urban areas, stressful events are more concentrated in some areas. The purpose of this study is to monitor and the distribution of stressful events among different areas of Tehran based on Geographic Information System (GIS).
Materials and Method: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on all residents of Tehran with an equivalent sample size of 5895. The sampling method was multi-stage cluster sampling. The research tool was a researcher-made questionnaire "Comprehensive tool for measuring stressful events in Tehran". Cronbach's alpha rate by halving method was 0.822 and the amount of variance explained was 0.49. GIS maps were used to analyze the data from the average experience of stressful events in each region and in ArcGIS software environment.
Results: Stressful events of fear in the future with an average of 15.15 was the most in all regions and in region one with a rate of 22.88 was the highest among regions. Living problems of the second stressors were the highest in all regions with an average of 10.45, and in region 16 with 16.21. Despite the unbalanced distribution of stressful events, the less developed areas south of Tehran experienced more stressful events than other areas.
Conclusion: The spatial distribution of stressful events varies according to the extent of development of the regions. The region and ecological conditions were related to the distribution of stressful events in Tehran and according to the type and nature of stressful events, residents of different areas of the city have had a special experience of these events.
